The city of Guangzhou is located just north of the Pearl River Delta, some 180 km northwest of Hong Kong. Guangzhou is Southern China's largest and most prosperous city, covering an area of over 7,434 square kilometers and having a population of 7.5 million people.
Thanks to its strategic geographic location and strong infrastructure, Guangzhou is the only city in China that combines seaport, river, aviation, railroad, and highway transportation. As a result of the booming manufacturing and industrial activities in the Pearl River Delta, the city has become one of China's most main transportation hubs. In 2006, a total of 300 million tons of goods have been shipped through Guangzhou Port, making it the 3rd largest of China’s coastal ports and the 5th largest port in the world. Guangzhou's new Baiyun International Airport, with a cargo throughput of 653'100 tons in 2006, is one of the three largest airfreight hubs in China.
In view of the city's rapid development, M+R Spedag Group Asia has long maintained an airfreight office at Guangzhou Airport, while operational aspects were handled out of the Hong Kong office. In view of the ongoing growth, M+R Spedag Group Asia now has opened a fully operational office in Guangzhou.
